In the Word we are commanded to honor. Children must honor their parents (Eph 6:1-3). We are to honor those in authority over us (Romans 13:1-8). And, of course, we are to honor God (Dan 5:23, Mal 1:6, 1 Tim 1:17)
But did you know that God honors you?! God never asks us to give something without first giving it to us (Rom 11:35, Mk 10:28-30, Heb 6:10)*. God honors us for a number of reasons:
>Because we are human! This is perhaps the most surprising of the reasons for His honor of us. He created His Creation good and worthy of being honored:
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[c]

>Because we are believers.
Amplified Bible (AMP)
Isaiah 43:4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.
This passage is directed toward Israel; believers receive the promises given to Abraham, which Israel inherited (Gal 3:14).
>Those who are following after God and dwelling with Him
4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.[c]
10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
from those whose walk is blameless.
When we test what we hear by the Word
Acts 17:11New International Version (NIV)
11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
>When we call on God to set us free from negative words that have been spoken over us.
1 Chronicles 4:9-10Amplified Bible (AMP)
9 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers; but his mother named him Jabez, saying, “Because I gave birth to him in pain.” 10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would indeed bless me and enlarge my border [property], and that Your hand would be with me, and You would keep me from evil so that it does not hurt me!” And God granted his request.
Jabez mother gave him a name which sounds like the Hebrew word for pain. He didn’t want his life to be full of pain, so he asked the Lord and God set him free from that curse.
I believe there are levels of honor God bestows, based on our walk with Him. But every human being has been given honor. And so we are able to give it to others.
